We just recently had a MLS 18D multi line phone installed in our warehouse. Our maintenance man pulled the wall jack to rewire to a new location in the room, but failed to label the wires before he pulled them. Now it is my job to reconnect them, but I am not familiar with multi-line phone wiring. My memory tells me that the phone is really a serial port device which connects to a "controller". I believe one pair is transmit and another pair is receive. Since we are using CAT 5, 4-twisted pair wiring at our facility, does anyone know if a simple way to determine which pair goes to which wall jack terminal?

Well that can depend. If you have a Magix, more than likely it will be the blue pair. With a Legend or Partner, It will be either the blue and green or blue and orange pairs. Check the actual cable to see if its labeled or if you have a toner, tone it out. See how its cross-connetced and jack it the same way. You'll want to terminate on pins 3,4,5,6(for an 8 pin jack). There's a link that might help... Matt Wray
