I purchased 7 mls-18d phones for a small office. In about 6 weeks 4 of the phones have died. They all do the same thing. When plugged in for about 20-30 minutes they start an odd beeping sound and are completely unusable. If I press the line 1 button and hold it I can hear a dialtone but it is still unusable. When I unplug the lower portion of the membrane the sound stops and I can then transfer calls to the phone. Am I correct in assuming the membrane is the problem? Can anyone tell me where I can buy new membranes?

i know the MLX-10D have had some problems with flex circuits in the past, however these were on the legend system.

if the phones stopped working so quickly, what type of warranty do you have.

Getting the membranes might be difficult. You may just want to send them out for repair. Definitely negotiate a repair rate in advance since you are repaired several phones.

I should have clarified these are old used phones I bought off of Ebay. They are 7-10 years old.

Just in case anyone has the same problem, here's a quick solution I found. The flex membrane in these phones has 2 ribbon connectors on the circuitboard. I located the pin that traces to the line 1 button. I put a peice of tape just over the lead going to line 1 so it would not make contact in the connector. This trace will also disable the left intercom button on the mls-18d. The phone does not beep anymore and is now usable. The only drawback is that you cannot select line 1 with the button but I have the system set to pick up line 1 when you lift the receiver. Also the left intercom button doesn't work but for a free fix it was worth it.
