I'm working on this Legend 4.0 that is a two cabinet system. The inventory is as such:
A Slot # 1: 008 MLX
A Slot # 2: 408
A Slot # 3: 408
A Slot # 4: 408
A Slot # 5: 800
A Slot # 6: 012 <--w/ring gen
A Slot # 7: 012 <--w/ring gen
A Slot # 8: 012 <--w/ring gen
A Slot # 9: 012 <--w/ring gen
A Slot # 10: 012 <--MLM 007

The power supplies are both c391c1.

Here's what happens. When you power on the second cabinet the VM boots up and starts going through its startup process, when you power on the main cabinet the VM shuts down. The status light stays on, but the ports go dead. I brought the VM back to the office and it works fine.

Here is what I have done in Trouble shooting.
1. reprogrammed a new processor and replaced.
2. replaced both power supplies
3. replaced both cabinets
4. replaced the 800 MLX and the 408 boards in the 1st cabinet.

Any other suggestions that could cause this?

Thanks.

I don't see exactly how, but it seems there may be some problems caused by a card in the 1st Carrier.

I would power only the 1st carrier up and then busy out the 408 Modules.

Then, I would power it down, remove the 408 Modules and power the system up correctly and see if that makes any difference.

If doing that allows the MLM-007 to keep working, I would re-install the 408's one at a time to see if it the problem was with them.

At least this a place to start.

check to see what the unit load for the 2nd cab is...I have
not run into a switch with so many 0x12s in the same cab.
Just a thought.....check to see if the cabs are grounded.
Leave no stone unturned.

Was this a system that was running fine, then one day decided to misbehave?

Mike

Yes, it has been running fine for years...until now.

I did as merlinman suggested, still no VM. One by one, I busied out all boards and pulled them out. Then after each board was removed I powered the system back on and each time the voicemail shut down as soon as the first cabinet was powered on.
I also busied out all the boards in the first cabinet collectively, removed them, then powered back up...same thing.

I'm scratching my head on this thing.

by my count the unit load for the second cabinet is 42. That is if the 007MLM is counted as a 012. Shouldn't the c391c1 power supply be sufficient for that?

The original power supplies that were in it, were a 391A1 in cabinet 1 and 391A3 in cabinet 2. I think the A1 had ring gen in it.

Either way, then newer power supplies should suffice, right?

if you had a spare 007mlm laying around...you could install
that and see if the same problem shows up.
Do you try removing the 0x12s to see if they could be the
cause?

I like HiDesert's idea. However, if you do not have a spare MLM-007, an 012 may suffice for that test.

Or, you could just monkey around with it, and back up the system as it is, and then do a system erase and put it back together with the MLM-007 in slot 2 and see what happens.

I'm sure this will make the client happy, but after all, you need to get to the bottom of this.

I brought their MLM back to my office to put in my test system. It didn't come up. I stopped the service, tested the drive, and restarted the service. It worked. They are back in business.

I guess I should have started with that.
