System has extensions 10 and 11 (operator and office manager)
ring without coverage to VM or other extensions; to leave
voicemail, one must dial ext 40 (for ext 10) and ext 41 (for
ext 11). Mailboxes 40 and 41 outcall "#53nn" where nn=10 or 11
to turn on message light on phone (10 = DLC, 11 = BIS-34D).

This works but has two major drawbacks: mailbox owner can
deprogram the light and the light must be manually extinguished
(by 'delete msg' = FEAT 26).

Is it preferable to set up calling groups with one member each
for extensions 40 and 41, cover them to voicemail group 770 and
designate receivers 10 and 11 for the two groups to light the
message lamps (would this work and if so will the light go out
after review of messages)?

What is the preferred way to set up voicemail recording for
extensions that never cover to voicemail (operator transfer,
AA transfer, internal direct to VM)?

Upgrade the processor a CKEx that will handle R7.0. That is where I would start.

Oh look at you. It's pretty clear you get this stuff.

Here's the thing: I'm sure that your DGC VM receivers will perform exactly the same way, i.e. the receiver would either have to login to the covering mailbox and listen (which SHOULD extinguish the MWL), work it through the soft keys or do the #*53xx (mode code for MWL cancel for said extension).

This would be an easy problem to solve with DuVoice voicemail, but that's obviously not the case here. What you've got is a square peg/round hole thing going on.

Can I ask WHY it is that two individuals need users and outsiders to dial a completely different extension in order to leave the target person a voicemail? Maybe if I understood the goal I could come up with a different approach. It's a fair question. "Call my home number. If I don't answer, call this other number instead. It won't ring any phone, but it will let you leave me a voicemail".

That's effectively what these people are asking for. Who works like that?

I got it. Let's use x11 as the example here:

Build a mailbox for x11, but DON'T add x11 to Cover Group 30 (or whatever); that assures that calls made directly to x11 DO NOT cover to voicemail.

Next, build a mailbox for x41 and stick 41 in the VM Cover Group. Assign one of the available Automated Attendants to mailbox 41 and disable all selector codes except for the "Zero/Timeout" option. Have the Zero/Timeout perform a "Call Answer" on mailbox 11.

Calls to x41 will cover to VM (you may want to record a brief "Please hold during the silence" message). Nobody presses a button and the call follows the Zero/Timeout action and a message is left in mailbox 11. Extension 11 gets the MWL triggered, the user logs into mailbox 11 to retrieve the message and, once played, deleted or whatever, extinguishes the MWL at x11.

Makes sense? It's an old AUDIX trick.

Customer wanted no coverage on 10 and 11 but still wanted
voicemail for users on those two -- someone had set it up this
way 15 years ago. An AA could handle this by giving the caller
the option to continue to ring or go to voicemail - perhaps
at some point this option may be acceptable to them.

In the meantime my hack is working but I would like to try yours
too. Thanks
