I have a Merlin Legend with MLM007 in slot 5 of the second cabinet.

There are no lights lit on the module, and voice mail is unresponsive. Nobody can get to a mailbox even the admin box

Hyperterminal to the com port gets no results.

The system has been rebooted twice, I have also hit the VM reset button.

Any help would be appreciated.

What does the module do when you power up? Do you hear the hard drive spin? If not, it could be the hard drive. Try it in a different slot - just to see if it powers up (green light flickering and/or on). If you have no hyperterminal connection at all (meaning you can't even see the BIOS boot-up screen), no lights and no hard drive spin - it is probably a "fried" motherboard on the VM and/or slot.

All the lights on the MLM come on at power up for about 1 second then go off. No further light activity at all.

I can hear the drive spin up.

Otherwise thats it.

Connect through hyperterminal from your computer (make the connection "live" while the whole system is still powered down - so connect before power up. Then, see if you get anything at all from VM BIOS - when you power up. Any error you see may give you a clue. The VM may have a failing motherboard - and you may see a specific BIOS error as the unit is going through it's one second of juice. Report back on what BIOS says. Remember to power up the expansion unit first, then the main system. If you have 391C1 power supplies, wait a good 15 seconds before flipping the switch on the main unit.

Nothing at all on the Hyperterminal screen.

The MLM had 4 green lights on it with just the expansion chassis powered.

When I powered the main chassis, 4 red lights came on for about 1 second, then all red and green lights went out.

Have you tried a different slot for the VM unit? Just to make sure it is not the slot?

You can swap the VM unit for any slot with an 012 or 016 card - and see what happens then.

My experience with repairing these units is that your symptoms indicate a motherboard problem. Did you have your Hyperterminal parameters set to 1200, 8-N-1? Also, are you using a straight-through serial cable to connect to the MLM? If you have checked all this and still get a blank screen it sounds like a bad motherboard.

Pepperz is right, perhaps you can beam him up and back down with an old profile, WAIT, that only worked in STARTREK.

It's time to get a new one!!!

The problem with any of these (MLM007 Especially) is that HARD DRIVES DIE!

That being said, I beleive that is the cold hard fact you are faced with.
