We run Compaq ML370 servers (win2k) with 2 x Compaq NC6134 gigabit NIC's in each. I have noticed that when I reboot the servers quite often only 1 NIC comes back online.

It doesn't happen all the time but it can take a couple more reboots to get them both going again. Latest drivers have been loaded etc.

Anybody else have this problem...could you offer adivce?

Andy.

Check for the following... Switch Configuration...

DO NOT USE auto/duplex or auto/10-100.

set "spanningtree portfast" on each port of cisco switch connected to the server.

(Sorry but cisco are the only commands I know)

Ensure you manually set the port-speed and duplex settings to reflect the switch configuration (no AUTO)

If you follow the above and still see the issues Compaq(Hp) will want to know about this problem.

Also, are you using the latest NIC drivers? -----------------------------------------------------

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. We use Cisco catalyst 4000 switches in our LAN, but not being a Cisco engineer could you give me the basic commands to check if our ports are set correctly.

I assume I would have to telnet to the ip of our switch to see the config.

Regards...Andy.

we have the same hardware and we have performance problems. when i copy a file over LAN i achieve 4-8 MB/sec. So it's worse than over a 100MBit network connection. Do you experience the same problems?

W2K SP3
Compay NIC Driver 3.63.363

Do you have the catalyst set to auto-negotiation?
