Hi

We have an old ml370 g2 which we need to recover data from.the machine is set up with 3 hot swap discs and a raid 5 array.when i start the server, i get the messages
"scsi bios not found" and "no scsi boot device found". i connected the discs to the onboard scsi port and they show up,so i know the discs are ok. what i would like to know is, if i found a replacemnet scsi card, would it allow me to recover the data? i tried connecting the discs on a newer blade server and these showed up as a raid 5 config, but i get bsod everytime.if anyone out there can suggest a way to recover the data, i would be very grateful!

That would appear to be a standard message that appears and related to the onboard SCSI rather than the RAID controller.

You want to be looking for something like a Smart Array 5i card and connecting your disks to that, and then looking for this during the server bootup.

hi

many thanks for your reply. the smart array controller does not show up in the boot order in the bios. btw, @ the moment, im attempting to carry out a repair install by installing the disks in a blade server but windows will not accept the product key. waiting for a call from microsoft!

Does the RAID controller (the 5i) show up in POST? Does it spin up the drives when it does pop up? Check the config in BIOS for the RAID controller. If it doesn't even show up, replace the 5i controller. The drives will write the config to the new controller. Is this something that just started happening out of nowhere, as in the server was working fine for quite some time before this?

Also, I would dl the latest Firmware Update CD from HP and update all firmware.

Hi Burt

Many thanks for your reply.the server has been out of service for 1 month since going over to a new server.the previous server wss hit by "anti virus 2008" crap and it was decided to move everything over to the new one. From what i remember, the discs did not spin up when i attemtped to start it yesterday. The 5i controller does not show up in the bios. I have opened a case with Microsoft since i moved the discs over to a spare dl380 server and attempted a repair install, but got stopped because it wont except the product key. Waiting with finger crossed!

Sounds like the 5i has shot craps.
I guess you guys don't block porn sites?lol
