I want to upgrade or add some new drives to my ml330 g2. Does anyone know where i can get these. Do i have to go though compaq/hp? I would much prefer to get them online but i am not sure of the model numbers. I know i have SCSI drives in there now.

Thanks

Nick

What size drives do you have now? What are you looking to upgrade to? Just google the part number you want and I'm sure you will find plenty.

36.4-GB Wide Ultra3 SCSI 10,000 rpm Drive (1”)
P/N: 176497-B21

Here is the link to various ML330 G2 documentation:

ML330 G2 Guide:

I have 2 18 GIG drives Mirrored

I want to put in at least 72 GIG drives

Look on the bottom---the part number will be there, and the spare number is what you need, which ends in -001. I will look at work tomorrow in OARS.

Burt

Burt,

Any luck finding those numbers?

Thanks

Nick

If you want to put 72.4Gb disks in, they will be Ultra320 disks so you must ensure your RAID controller is capable of taking Ultra320 drives. Chances are that they will run albeit at the slower Ultra3 compatability but best to make sure...

Note 1 : Whenever the heat sink is removed from a processor, a new heat sink must be installed. If a used heat sink is re-installed, the heat conduction capabilities of the substance between the heat sink and processor is degraded causing the processor to over heat and cause thermal events to occur. Always install a new heat sink from spares or from the processor option kit when re-installing or replacing a processor.

Looks like only Ultra3 drives. The number for this is 233349-001, but I don't know if that will work. I think I may have one, and I will try it.

Burt

HP says that the 72 gigs are not supported---just 18GB. Part number is 152191-001, non-hot plug. Also supported are 20GB and 40GB IDE drives. Ebay has the 18GB's for around $115-$130.

Burt

I would take that with a pinch of salt as the 72Gb disks were probably not available when the server was released, and hence are not on the supported list

You never know with HP...however, I would tend to agree with you, TheLad. One could always sell the drive back on Ebay if it did not work.

Burt

I was just thinking... Could i just buy a PCI SATA RAID CARD and use SATA Drives? Anyone have any experience doing that?

Thanks

Nick

Nope

hp dont except this config
never tried 72gb's in a g2 - never seen a 330 but i think they work in a 370 g2

the inside lid is the best place for info but a g2 - 72gb's would have been vapourware

I have used 72Gb disks in a DL360 G2 before, worked fine. The disks will just step down from Ultra320 to Ultra3 if the RAID controller does not support Ultra320 (although you may need to ensure firmware is up to date)

I have 72Gb drives in an ML370, and they work, but I think the 330 will NOT work. I have also put in larger drives in the DL360's and 380's, G2.

Burt

I was able to get the quick specs directly from compaq and they say the 142 GIG drives are only supported when used with the HotPlug cage.
