MKV video files crashing. Windows Explorer

Any one having trouble with Windows 7 and .mkv video files causing Windows Explorer to crash when opening folders with mkv files in the solution is to update the video codecs.

This pack on cNet does the job admirably, just don't let it install the "branded" Yahoo toolbar at the very end.

Since I boycott CNET, see the appropriate thread in the -Virus/Spyware discussion Forum, and am an avid supporter of the K-Lite Codec Packs, let me point you then to that DL site as an alternative...

these should be enough for most users:

this one covers almost every codec there is, so if one is editing or creating videos, this one should be considered instead of the ones above:

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 8.1.0

also the following is available, only to be used when one is using 64bit Media Players, both above should be used instead, see also the info on the DL site:
