Hello,

I upgraded from 4.3.3 to 5.2 ML3.
Now i have problems with the mksysb. It tells me that i cannot boot from tape because the kernel size does exceed 12Mb in size.

Is there already a solution to the problem ? Or is it already enough to remove some installed device drivers and run the bosboot command again to check the new kernel size ??
Anyone out here who also ran into this problem ??

Any hints or comments are welcome.
Thanks

Have you tested the mksysb? I seem to remember getting an error about the tape not being bootable on 5.2 and it could be ignored. Try to restore it on a test box and see what happens.

i had this when creating mksysb on 5.2 (ml04)

check /usr/lpp/bos.sysmgt/README for workarounds

gary.

install latest ml (encounter this problem which cos the restoration from mksysb won't work)

I'm busy with testing the installing and uninstalling the driver software and i get some results.
Customer has a lot of drivers installed and just a few in use. I try to uninstall the unused drivers in order to make the kernel a bit smaller under the limits....

I installed ML3 and i heard ML4 has the same problem.

Thanks for helping me think....

Cheers.
