I am trying unsuccessfully to reuse old mksysb tapes that I have created using smit. Whenever I do, the process fails with various errors. A new tape works evry time. Any ideas? I don't need to keep more than 2 or 3 old tapes, so I would like to use the old ones again.

Hi,
if the problem appears with all old tapes there is a problem with tape drive.

Dear redbeard2975,

Can you perform other operations with the "bad" tape? Try to list the files backed up
(restore -T -f /dev/rmtx).
Since this is a mksysb, you'll have to forward space past the bootable image, etc. first
(tctl -f /dev/rmtx fsf 1 [or 2])

Does this happen with all the old tapes? Has anything changed since the backup tape was created? (i.e. new hardware, software, etc.)

Hope this helps.

Darin
