I've been having a few problems with my upgrades of AIX 5.1/HACMP 4.4.1 in one environment and AIX 5.1/HACMP 5.1 in the other. While talking with tech support (on the phone as well as IBMlink), I asked them about restoring a mksysb if I had to return to my previous environment and they said a mksysb is not supported within an HA environment. I had our IBM rep verify that statement which he did, and again the answer was no.
I had a cluster node crash in the past and successfully restored it (via NIM server) from its mksysb image which I do every month. The only thing I had to do was importing shared VGs.
I don't remember if I did cluster syncronization after I restored system but for sure cluster verification and functionality passed.
Thanks for the info.
I've never had to restore either of my cluster nodes, but since they made that statement it made me wonder what others are doing in regards to a disaster recovery situation.
By the way, IBM never said it wouldn't work, just that it isn't supported.
I've restored from a hacmp mksysb in a disaster recovery situation and didn't have a problem at all (P680s to a P690). Ironically, it was the supported SP Nodes that had the majority of the problems.
