Hi,

first you must create a nimobject for your 6h1 at your nimserver:
smitty nim
Perform NIM Administration Tasks
Manage Machines
Define a Machine

second you must configure the nimserver for awnser of bootp request:
smitty nim
Perform NIM Software Installation and Maintenance Tasks
Install and Update Software
Install the Base Operating System on Standalone
Clients
(select your 6h1, select mksysb, select the mksysb you wnt to install)

third you must configure your 6h1 for boot from network (enter your nimmaster ip, subnetmask and ip from your 6h1)
and boot the machine.

hope it helps

the third step, what is meant by this?

i'm having an issue when i try to mksysb install:

0042-175 c_initiate_bootp: An unexpected result was returned by the "/usr/bin/bootlist" command:
0514-227 bootlist: Firmware information necessary to validate the network attributes for ent1 is not available at this time.
You can either reboot the system and retry the command
or run the command again with the force (-F) flag to bypass validation
of network attributes.

any ideas? i'm trying to restore a system back to an earlier image after doing an ML upgrade (committed)

thanks!

actually, i don't want to migrate, i need to blow away the current system with a mksysb created a few weeks ago.

ok, figured out at least part of the problem. i was trying to get the nim server to boot the node remotely over the client's ent1 device. this interface wasn't in the sms menus on the host as a bootable device.

i brought the host up by hand and selected the ent0 interface and was able to get the boot image over from the server.

will update if i notice anything else....
