We've done a mksysb to an LTO3 drive and have assigned the virtual scsi tape drive to our target LPAR and attempted to boot off it but keep it keeps crashing out. The mksysb was successful but we end up with basically a dump to screen. An extract of this dump is :

default catch !
open firmware exception handler entered from non-OF code

Well, It was adviced by DukeSSD few weeks ago that LTO3 can't create bootable mksysb!

Couldn't find the thread though!

Khalid

Thanks.

We were afraid you would say that.

Ever done mksysb to a dvd before ? We tried and it appeared to work fine, we used mkdvd. It completed successfully but was very quick, too quick for our liking. Anyway when trying to boot from the dvd it said that no image could be found so clearly the image wasn't written successfully. Will give it another go.

Thanks anyway!

Have you tried booting from CD, then performing the restore from system backup options? (I think the term is "clone")
