Hi,

When I am trying to take system image backup on to the internal tape drive it keeps failing. I have tried to use a brand new tape to eliminate the problem being the media, but still I am unable to complete the backup.

2 of my logical volumes in the rootvg have few stale partitions, I am suspecting this could be one of the reason for this failure. Can someone let me know if there is anything I have to look for to fix this problem.

Command: failed stdout: yes stderr: no

Before command completion, additional instructions may appear below.

Creating information file (/image.data) for rootvg....

Creating tape boot image.......

Creating list of files to back up..
Backing up 51664 files...../usr/bin/mksysb[882]: 139536 Bus error(coredump)

0512-005 mksysb: Backup Completed.
The backup command completed with errors.
The messages displayed on Standard Error contained additional
information.

TIA
Kumar

you can check if the lv's are causing the trouble by adding the mount points to a file called exclude.rootvg (located in /etc/.If it doesn't exist already, you must create it )
Then launch mksysb with the -e parameter, this will make an mksysb and exclude the folders listed in exclude.rootvg.
If the problem persists , you have a scsi bus problem ( or a malfunctioning tapedrive)

regards,

R.

Bus error... try running diag and check the errpt for planar or other errors.
