Hi All,

We have some lvs on root volume group for oracle application and they all are of size over 15 GB.to take the mksysb backup i have to unmount them as i am taking mksysb backup on 20/40 GB DDS-4 Tape. But Now from last one month i cannot unmount them as the oracle application filesystems are in use .Is there any way through which i can exclude the unwanted filesystems in root volume group and take my mksysb backup while all the application are on line.

Thanx in advance..

regards

arvind

hi, you have 2 ways: one is easy, the other no.

The first is to indicate in a file which roots
of directory you have to don't save in system backup.

Suppose you have these jfs (more than the others)

...
/home
/oracle/export
...

In a file you can write :

/home/data/tmp
/oracle/export/d1
/oracle/export/d2

In this mode filesystem informations of /home,/oracle/export
will be created in mksysb, with the actual size, but files under /home/data/tmp and ..d1,d2 will not be saved.

When you enter smitty mksysb, you can see that the 3th field is
EXCLUDE files? : put yes here, and seeing help (F1), you see that the path of the "exclude-file" is /etc/exclude.rootvg .

The second way is more difficult and you can use to
avoid that a jfs informations go in mksysb: if you will
restore image, these jfs will not be re-created.
To acheive this result go at / path, and take note of
the date of file image.data
Then, enter the command
mkszfile
leave run; the command creates a new version of image.data
Edit it and delete all stanzas of fs_data: and lv_data: referring your jfs you dont want in mksysb
Run smitty mksysb and switch to No the field
Generate new /image.data file?

I belive the fisrt is better: easier and jfs will be created, but I belive is important know the second method.

You can use to taylor mksysb for a more little machine: reduce paging space, or other customizations.

bye

Hi arvibm

Please follow the simplest approach in two steps:

step 1:edit or create the file /etc/exclude.rootvg
by coding the file systems whose backups are not required)

step 2:login as root account and issue the command
#mksysb -i -e /dev/rmt0
