Hi.

Since I installed the ML05 on AIX 5.2, I have no more mksysb backup :

1st error :
The savevg command return this :
Creating list of files to back up.Usage: rm [-firRe] [--] File...
(but I think that the vg are saved ...)

2nd error :
The mksysb command (mksysb -i -X -e /mnt/bos.obj.myserver) return this :
131417 of 136868 files (96%)..............backup: 0511-432 A write error occurred: Error 0
backup: 0511-079 The backup media may be damaged.
Use a different disk to run the backup.
And then, no file where created in /mnt ....

Is there any new version of savevg/mksysb command ? (It's shell scripts...)

Tks a lot.

The first thing I would check is if your mksysb image has gone over 2Gb. There are a number of limits which kick in if this is the case, one of them being connected to NFS (I'm assuming /mnt is an NFS mount)

I've got this diocumented somewhere and if this is the case I'll look it up (or one of the guru's will know it without looking it up)

Of course, this is a NFS mount. But how can I reduce the mksysb image ??
I think that the ML05 increased the volume of my rootvg, but what did I have to delete ????

Tks

Don't reduce the size of your image, rather make sure that
1) The file system on the NFS mount is large file enabled
2) The user running the mksysb (root I assume) has ulimit set to unlimited
3) to quote the documentation - The file size limit for files located on an NFS server is taken from the process environment when nfsd is started. To use a specific value, edit the /etc/rc.nfs file. Using the ulimit command with the desired limit before the startsrc command for nfsd.

Actually I'd do those the other wayu round i.e. 3 then 2 then 1

Thanks a lot.

I forgot this 2Go limit of files !!!
I think that an issue is to reduce some FS with deleting files, but which ones ?
I will study the 3), and reconstruct my "NFS" with a JFS with large files..

I have mksysb's 2.5g on aix 5.2 ML5. Normally nfsd is owned by root and root ususally is unlimited.
