hi,

i have two B80 servers with 4gb,2cpu both are indentical in all respects like utilization and no.of hard disks.

but my mksysb backup(rootvg) takes one hour in first server. Second server takes 5.30 hours to complete.

Any idea why it is taking too long.
you can ignore the media problems because i have already checked up.

What media problems did you check up??

'lscfg -l rmt0'
Look for block size and other values. Make sure they're identical.

When they do the backup how's the activity on the tapestations?? What does vmstat and iostat say??

Am using DVDRAM... for backup.

lsattr -El cd0 . Don't have any configurable value for Block size.

i did not check the vmstat because backup runs in mignight that to only on sunday ( no business load system is almost ideal).

any idea what could be the reason?

thanks in advance

Have you checked for scsi conflicts and device position on the scsi bus & termination. To solve this I would look at the full config of both boxes, and make changes to the second box. --

Are you sure you are only backing up rootvg
checkthe number of files it backs up when running mksysb

no errors in errpt.

Am not getting from where to start. since it is DVDRAm.
if its tape i would have checked the block size....etc.

any suggessions??

Hi

Send an lsvg -l rootvg, lsvg rootvg Output.
Have you an exclude.rootvg File ?
Remove the Directories that looks like /.cd....
On wich way you make a System Backup ? smitty or Command-Line ?
Are There Enough Space in the rootvg to Create the FS needed for mkisofs ?
Its Possible that the mksysb on DVD can take one hour.

What FS is specified in the SMIT field:
"File system to store mksysb image"

Is it within rootvg or outside of rootvg?
Compare & contrast between systems...

(I sound like one of my old teahcers now...)

Oh, and can you also post the output of:

lsdev -Cs scsi

And also "compare and contrast" these between the 2 systems.
Check for any SCSI type interrupts/errors from "errpt".

Is that alright mrn? I think thats the most we can hope for until the introduction of the "lsmissingterminator" command.

in both systems , earlier we used to use.

#mkcd command. This will create temporaly three file systems, approximatly 8gb it require, finally to burn on to DVDram.

We don't have sufficient FREE PPs. So, we switched back to
#mksysb -v -e -X -i /dev/cd0 running in crontab once in a week.

both systems : am taking rootvg backup
: mkssyb capacity is about 4.6 GB.
: blocks 100 by default.
: no. of files approximatly 85000
: exclude only one small file system which we don't want to backup.

But first complets in 1.5hour, second completes in 5.5 hours. strange..

Dear mrn,

am sorry. all the the data is same in two systems. assured rootvg backup only. We have another VG. that backup is handled by veritas backup. Am not worried about that.
