i am doing something wrong somewhere along the line here !!

i run mkcd on AIX with the -S to create but not burn my cd images, ftp the images to my windows desktop and then burn the image. the thing is, what ever software i use to burn the cd, i still cannot boot the AIX server.

I get 'unrecognised client program format'
and 'Word called in boot manager package not found'.

If I mount the cd when aix is running and just 'ls -l /cdrom' , the empty directories such as installp, come back with 0653-341 The file does not exist although i can navigate through /usr as that has something in it.

any help would be appreciated !!!

Sounds like you are not burning it as an iso image

If you give the file a .iso extension, nero (at least) will pick up that it is an iso image and take you into the iso burning option and create a bootable CD

thanks dave. yes i think your correct. i do not have nero on my desktop, just some software i downloaded called InfraRecorder !!

I just did a search and apparantly infrarecorder can burn iso images. Perhaps have a read of the help file

thanks dave.

i am definately burning an ISO image and everything looks ok i.e. i can see bosinst and image .data, i can see the mksysb image, i just have a problem with the empty directories like installp, ppc, root.

I can't speak to why the directories are empty, but I'm able to burn mksysb images (using mkcd) on my windows system. I use burnatonce though. I just rename the image with an iso extension and then open it with the application.
