Morning guys and gals. Question. I'm new to Avaya. Started on 1A2 and worked on probably every other name brand but new to Avaya. Loving it so far.
My question concerns being proactive in monitoring the system. I have a button on my sidecar with a Mj/Mn button. When it's lit I'll check my gateways, errors, alarms and then alarms on servers. Is there an easier way to check alarms or errors? We have a couple of CM's and Msg server. I actually setup ASA to check alarms and email me any new alarms every 15 minutes. Again trying to be proactive. It just seems you have to look in so many places for potential alarms. Is there an easier way? :) Am I doing this wrong? This mornings alarm ended up being I believe a Trunk Card not in use in a Gateway which I'm looking to clean up such things and get any unused equipment removed. Thanks for any feedback.

Not really. Display alarms is where CM puts everything.

For things that come your way, I'd suggest reading Maintenance Commands for CM
and Maintenance Alarms:
and the denial event guide:

For something to be logged as an 'alarm', a certain number of errors need to be logged against that maintenance object for CM to put it into an alarmed state.
For example, detecting an errored second on an ISDN circuit would be logged as an error. Logging >X in a certain threshold raises the alarm whereby CM takes the thing out of service and begins trying some remedial actions.

Read read read and don't be afraid to ask questions about that stuff. Not enough people read those books thoroughly enough. Do yourself a favour and go look at page 557 of the maintenance alarms book. That's just a pretty diagram of how the PBX deals with ISDN problems.
 
Thanks Kyle will do some studying. I am blown away at the amount of documentation out there. And it's all been good so far. Just trying to put some of the pieces together.
