Hi, I want to set up a lan with multiple LAN security cameras that directly connect to ethernet with 25 computers connected.
Any cameras can be seen by any computer.
The total data addition would be over 100mbit if all the cameras were being streamed at once.
1. How do you calculate what the total traffic would be allowing for collisions etc? I presume it's not just the total of all cameras.

2. If the total traffic was say 150 mbit on a 100mbit LAN what would happen? Would it all crash or would the last to connect just not connect or would it all work but the videos just loose frames?

3. Is there a device like a switching hub setup that can be programmed to direct some cameras to some computers so the total traffic does not exceed the limit at any one point?

I think you should investigate Multicast if bandwidth is a concern with streaming video. Using Multicast in a one-to-many video distribution system saves massive amounts of bandwidth that would potentially overwhelm a network with hundreds of unicast streams.
