Hi,
I have a japanese database that I am replication from. It's collation is Japanese-BIN. I'd like to be able to display the japanese character data on my "normal" database.
what is the best way to do this?
Should I set collation at the field level on my subcription db?
If I set the colation at the database level things like joins to the "nornal" collated db fail to work.
TIA
Jeff

I've never tried to mix collations but I have had to view Japaneese characters. I had to install MS IME in order to view the asain charater set.
Here is a link to get IME.

If you don't install it on your server and any machine you want to view the Japaneese characters you'll get funny symbols in the text. (Not that Japaneese isn't funny characters already) ; )

I would recommend using the same collation on the subscriber as at the publisher. This will definetly keep things easier as far as getting everything working for the replication.

As for the joins you will need to use the COLLATE function to change the collation of one of the fields used in the join in order to join the data in the subscription database to the data in the other databases on that server that are using a different collation.
