hi there

i am currently doing a university assignment about setting up a campus network, and I have a question which i'm not sure of. if i want to link 30 workstations together but do not want to use a 48-port switch, can i actually stack a 12-port and a 24-port switch together?

many thanks

Hi

Depends on the switch...

But I guess that on 48-port switch will cost less than a 24 plus a 12, and give your design some room to grow.

The answer is yes you could just stick one 12 and 1 24 port together with a crossover cable but you would need a separate ip address if you want to manage both where a true stack you would only need one ip address to manage the whole stack .
