I have a small home network and I'm wondering if I can use both wired and wireless connections in the following manner.

My current connection is cable modem to wireless router. There are a laptop (wireless), server (wireless) and G5 (wired) all connected right now to the wireless router. Because the new G5 is probably one of the coolest computers I've ever seen, my roommate suggested that it stay where everyone can see it. So, the server is now in the back of the house in what is now my server room :) I have a linux box that I would like to get setup on the network as well. So, I'm wondering if I can take the wireless connection to the server and then share it via a wired NIC to a switch in which the linux box would connect to. Make sense? It seems like it work work and that I would have to enable ICS on the server...but I wanted to post to get your thoughts.

Thanks.

How is the Linux box connected to the wireless server? You stated the Linux box would be connected to a switch. How does this server connect to that switch? More information please.

The server has two NIC's, one wired, one wireless. The wired NIC would be connected into the switch.

Let me clarify the network.

Cable Modem -> Wireless Router -> Server (NIC #1 Wireless) -> Server (NIC #2 wired) -> Switch -> Linux box (NIC #1 wired)

Hope this makes more sense.

Just to clarify. The linux box would only be connected to the server which would be connected to the wireless router. The linux box would not be directly connected to the wireless router.

You should be able to share the wireless connection then. Performance will be horrible, but you can do it. You need to set that server up for internet sharing and your done.
