I've got a win2k/ex2k domain running mixed mode.

I've got a new server running win2k3 that I want to install ex2k3 on.

What concerns me is that my current environtment is stil lrunning mixed mode, but I am only rnning win2k and win2k3 servers. I inhereted this network last year and am unsure of the results if I move to native mode on the domain at this time.

So, my question is: am I going to be ok running win2k3 adprep/forestprep on the win2k/ex2k server before the introduction of the win2k3/ex2k3 server? btw - my dc is the win2k/ex2k server.

Do you mean the domain is in mixed mode or that XC is in mixed mode? Your message suggests domain only but you might want to check XC as well.

Either way if you have no NT4 servers and no XC5.5 servers in the mix you can change them to native.

More problematic is that there are some gotchas with schema stuff and XC2003 installation if you already have XC2K. I forget the exact issue something to do with InetOrgPerson if I recall correctly. Well documented in MS documentation though. Just a hotfix to run.

Personally I would do the schema updates at least for W2003 in AD before installing XC2003 but that is just me.

You won't get the full functionality of XC2003 for such things as RPC over HTTPS until all your DC/GC's are on W2003 and you are in W2003 native mode.

Thanks Neill,

yes, both the domain and XC are mixed mode. This has been a constant upgrade from 3.51 hense the mixed mode settings.

I am aware of the schema issues, that should be reolved shortly.

Thanks for your feedback.
