Mixed Media backups

I have a STKL180 library with (2) 9840 tape drives and 5 LTO tape drives. Running W2K, Legato 6.2.

The LTO drives were recently installed, and I am having trouble labeling the LTO tapes. I go into the GUI, rightclick one of the LTO drives under devices, click operations. I click on label, select one of the slots to label, and it seems like it labels fine. I get the message that the media has been labeled, but when I look at the GUI, the media still says its unlabeled.

Does anyone else have this same kind or similar environment, and do I need to change some other settings in order for Legato to recognize mixed media?

BTW, I already reran the JBCONFIG command after the LTO drives were installed.

WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NetWorker will NOT support mixed media in a library without additional software. The only way this is supported is IF you use AlphaStor or ACSLS from STK and configure the library as two separate libraries each with different drive types. If you use ACSLS you will need SIlo not Autochanger licenses.

Stop now and choose the drives you want to use and drop the others.

Backups will work fine, but restores will be a problem unless you manually load tapes for restores.

This has nothing to do with the problem you are talking about, this is most likely the GUI not be updated and is not a real problem.

I believe the mixed media will work (even on restores) if the tape pools are dedicated to specific devices.

I've got this running on my test system under a UNIX based server (HP-UX) with a STK-9710 that has a 9840 and multiple DLT-7000's.

I've even tested restores by disabling the particular "type" drive and Legato will wait until the proper "type" drive is available before attempting to mount the tape.

The information in Legato's TB about mixed media was incorrect (or maybe correct for previous releases).

You can Have mixed media on a Library. Thats correct, you have attached the pools to a specifics groups.

To make this works you have to have Barcodes on the tapes.... that the only way that Networker handle mixed media...
