Hi!
It is possible to upgrade a multimode 100BaseFX backbone to 1000BaseSx using the same fiber and mantaining some older 100BaseFX module joined with new 1000BaseSX?

1) Yes 1000baseSX will run 220 meters over the same 62.5 micron Multimode fiber that ran for 100baseFX

2) No, 1000baseSX only goes at gig and 100baseFX only goes at 100 meg so you can not use mixed electronics at ANY speed.

3) Yes you can have some fibers doing 1000baseSX at both ends and some fibers doing 100baseFX at both ends, so long as the 100 meg is matched to the 100 meg and the gig is matched to the gig.

Very little fiber will autonegoitate speed or duplex, 100baseSX is the only 10/100 standard in fiber I am aware of, and it does not seem to be popular.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
