Can the cause of a "major alarm" be identified through the console? If so, does it require admin/maintenance passwords?
Or, do we need to find an alarm status light on one of the cards to help narrow down the Major Alarm"?

Small Holiday Inn. The system seems to be working fine. No user issues.

Thanks

System type, s/w level? console type? SX2000 usually requires access to alarm management through the Maintenance port. You will need username and password.

There are 3 alarm categories on the SX2000, minor, major and critical. A critical alarm is always service-affecting. A Major alarm often can be service-affecting, but like a hole in your gas tank, it may take a while before you realize the full impact. I would consider a "major" alarm something to concern myself with, because without knowing exactly what the problem is, it could be very serious (like a corrupted database).

Any system alarm, regardless of the level, needs to be investigated and corrected. As NYTALKIN says, you need to look at this through the Maintenance terminal (not a console) and you will need username and password for login. If you don't have these available then you're going to have to contact your service company. The default userid might be something like "installer" and the default password might be something like "sx2000" but I really doubt that any self-respecting dealer would ever leave these at their default values.
