Your thoughts please

We have an SX2000 that is running our site quite adequately (plenty of cab space to add new station cards and trunk capacity etc, but we have no spare stations at the moment). It is probable that we will be adding a new building to our site that will add about 25 stations.

This build will involve adding LAN connectivity (by fibre) and telephone lines. Here is my dilemma, do I use the mitel upgrade path to the DS330 VOIP switch thus saving considerably on the copper cabling (probably 300M of 24 pair copper and install labour) but increased investment on IP PBX or stick with analogue telephony.

VOIP doesn't paticularily scare me (I have good voice and LAN skills)

Extra to this is the question of devices (IP handset or Analogue). My prefernce would be for analoguie handsets connected to a IP gateway. I am unsure if Mitel do such a gateway? Any Mitel vendors out there wih an answer?

Thanks all

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

What model of sx2000 do you have & what s/ware version, as there are a few suggestions but need a bit more info

If the distance is not too great, you could run an additional fiber pair to the new site and hang a peripheral cabinet off it. This is a solution that I wish I had used in the past--it would have saved me the cost of an entire switch.

You can find the specifications and limits to the length of the fiber run in your documentation.

Sounds like your best of using a remote PER because if you do have a micro light you will be replacing the whole sys, however if you think you may need VOIP/IP extns in the near future get a Basic build 3300 & hang a PER of it. This way you can use your existing peripheral eq

forgot to add, after speaking to a couple of mitel GODS the general consensus is that you should be fine on fibre
