Mitel SX-50 Extensions Stopped Ringing

We have a Mitel SX-50 connected to about 70 extensions for a hotel. In the last few days, we have experienced two problems, which may be related.

First, one of the few cordless phones hooked up stopped working for tone dialing. It would get a dial tone, but then it was as if the phone wouldn't recognize any of the touch numbers at all, even though I could hear the dial tones on the handset. I switched the cordless to pulse-dial and it actually worked just fine (just much slower). No idea why tone-dialing stopped working.

Then a much bigger problem happened. All of the extensions stopped ringing. The phones actually work, but none of the extensions will ring. We read that it could be a power-supply issue, but that another possibility is in the programming of the console. You can hear the phones ringing from the handset you are calling on, but the end-user doesn't ever hear his phone extension ring. If he happens to pick up the phone, he can talk to the caller, but there is no way to ring the extension.

Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Thanks!

that looks to me to be a fault on the basic telephony resources of the PBX. When that happends on the new 3300 it's a fault directly related to the DSPs. To remedy this I have replaced the controller, transfered licences and hard drive to the new controller and the system will be running in less than an hour.

I have no idea of the structure of the sx50, and if it has DSPs, etc. However, I'm pretty sure it's too old and I might think Mitel does not support it anymore.

I think it's time to replace that controller for a new system, 3300 AX controller will probably suit your needs.

Last year I saw two brand new SX50s in our depo that our company never sold, I think they threw those away, nobody wanted them... sorry.

There is this company on-line that sells refurbished Mitel parts, give them a call or google Craig Communucations they might be able to help you.

Wow, This brings back nightmares.
Does the system have any alarms?
Did you try a system reset?
It could be the power supply, main control board or both.
Buying from a reseller old new or refurbished parts is up to you however a small investment in a 3300ICP will save you the headaches.
