The system is now hanging at this line The system can't complete the boot up. Is there some way from the console to delete it?

Doh! Probably would help if I included the line:

xfile:cannot write /vb/xrtc file to big

Are you sure it's not 'db' instead of 'vb'?

At any rate, at the shell, type:

rm "/db/xrtc"

where db is either db or vb (but if it's vb, that's odd)

The xrtc file is a file that captures the output of exceptions raised by the software. If this file is full, then that means that your system is or was in a pretty bad state. At one point, this was a large file, but it's since been broken up into manageable sizes, can't recall which version of the SX-200 that was in though.

Hi, oh yes, the system was a mess. Our support tech came over on weds and was not sure why the system kept tanking. He opted to swap out the entire controller. System seems to be running ok now, but we still don't know what the real problem was.

Thanks for your help!!

No problem. If you ever see an xrtc file in the /db directory it's typically not a good thing. You can take a look at the file and although it's basically a machine dump of the offending task that excepted, it should give you some clues as to what is the root cause of the exception.

Well as it turns out, our VAR has swapped out the whole controller and put in a temp one. It would appear ours has a shot mobo.

Thanks again for your help!

Any chance you have some old system diagnostic reports from the old system? The xrtc files are collected in there. I am often curious to how many 'hardware faults' are really true hardware failures. I've seen lots, but most are related to daughter cards not being seated properly etc. I've probably tested over 20 dsp modules that sites complain about, but work fine when put in my system(s).

I had assumed that those were log files. After the 10th reset the system finally kicked over and I was able to make a b/u of the logs and then delete them.

if the .gz file is where these live, I'd be more then happy to send them to you.

I have always felt that the framer module is messed up, but I smashed my foot up and was not there during the swap out.
