Is anyone familiar or heard of using anti virus products on any MSL product? I have someone that is questioning me about this and not sure if anything is availible or even needed. I know in the general info guide for the 3300 it briefly mentions no real threat is present on vxworks for virus.

I has a customer insist on adding an anti virus program to a teleworker. It stopped running but on the bright side there were no viruses.

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!

Thats pretty hilarious. Ok, I guess im going to call mitel and get thier official point of view from our regional rep

what is the MSL going to run? will it be dirctley connected to the internet?

Also we need to install antivirus on 3300 because it is a computer as well. Ouh, my toaster has a timer with a little computer in there, I need a little antivirus for little viruses.
Sorry for offtop :)

You shouldn't, in most cases *nix operating systems aren't virus prone.

They are, however hacker/script prone. You will always want to use strong passwords and check the logs periodically to see if someone is trying to gain access.

Hope that helps!

Jim

The impression I get of MSL is that it's only geared up to work with Mitel branded products. If Mitel don't offer one then I wouldn't hold much hope in there being one out there.

As Jim says with a properly configured firewall and strong passwords you should be fine.

Ok I spoke with our mitel sales engineer and he said that basically MSL is a stripped down version of Cent OS Linux and only the services that are required to run the blades are enabled.

Im going to stick with nytalkin's note and assume its going to stop wotking if we load it on there.

check out you can also email security@mitel.com for information.

I agree... ensure you have strong passwords. You can stop any remote access to the system, forcing anyone to either be onsite or VPN and manage locally.
The MSL software does allow you to configure a VPN user account... allowing you to VPN into the system for more secure management... this is how we set ours up.
