Good day all,

I have two Mitel RFP 31 IP 32 MB devices on my network. we had a powerfailure and these devices were off for the whole weekend.

Both work with PoE. here is what I have tried:
1. Unplugging both devices for a few minutes.
2. Changing ports on the HP PoE switch.
3. Another cable from the switch to device.

Nothing has resolved this issue. My handsets cannot connect to the devices and I cannot ping both on the LAN.

any suggestions guys?

many thanks!

Go into the OMM and see if they are still programmed; maybe the power cut wiped them?

Hi wireman50,

thanks for the quick response!

by OMM, do you mean Open Mobility Manager? I will attach a laptop to the device and see if I can connect to it.
Where in the mitel console do I see them configured?

many thanks!

I get that, but with my experience the only place you get the OMM is when you try and access the device.

at the moment I cannot access the device, it just flashes a red light.

RED flashing LED means that the RFP is not receiving a DHCP info with OMM information or faulty hardware. Are you sure that there is not a second DHCP server on the network?

Have you reserve a ip address in the DHCP Static IP address option of the Mitel DHCP server?
Did you configure option 140 in the DHCP of the Mitel DHCP Server?
You must also configure option 224 type=ASCII,value=OpenMobility and option 254 type=ASCII,value=Update.
I never get this worked on a different dhcp server (Windows 2003/2008)other than the Mitel DHCP server.

Hi guys!

thanks for the feedback! I was out on the road all day, but will have a go at you suggestions and give some feedback soonest!

many thanks!

hi guys,

ok after some investigation I see that my Mitel does have any of the config in that MitelAppie suggested. I added it this morning and will have to reboot the devices and see if they come up.

many thanks!

Eureka!!

Got this badboy working! after changing the settings on my Mitel and nothing worked I had a look on my Windows DHCP server and found the resevation under that subnet.

I did some ping tests and after a while noticed that the DNS Name was set to domain.co.za and when trying to ping anything on my network with the domain it does not resolve. When I ping just the pc name, I get a reply.

so I did some investigation into my DNS,and found that there are some suspicious settings.

after about 15min. I started pinging the IP's of both devices.

many thanks for your help guys...its been a great learning curve!

cheers
