My company is trying to use a combination of Personal Ring Groups and External Host-Desking to allow us to set up an on-call phone number for our IT Department. We are using a Mitel 3300 ICP, on Release Level 7.1 PR1.

We already have the Hot-Desking licenses, and we have confirmed that the system can do what we want (in terms of having calls to one number overflow to the cell phones held by the on-call staff). Now, we're trying to see if we can make things more convenient.

As it stands, we have one desk phone and 2 cell phones listed in the Personal Ring Group for our Helpdesk number. At any given time, only one of the cell phones would be listed as 'Present'. Our setup is laid out so that when a call comes in to our helpdesk number, it first rings to the Helpdesk desk phone, and, after a few seconds, it rings to the desk phone AND the cell phone.

We have 2 people who split the on-call time, and they also provide coverage for each other's lunches, so we are doing a lot of changing between absent and present. Currently, we need to log into the ICP and set these values that way, but it would be far easier if we could either:
a) Have a button on a desk phone that controlled whether a specific cell phone was present in the Personal Ring Group
b) Have a Number we can dial into on the cell phone to log in/out of the ring group.

We can continue as is, but we would much prefer to avoid having to manually change the user's Group Presence by logging into the ICP.

Can anyone provide any advice or guidance?

There will be feature access codes for Group Presence 3rd Party control (Present and Absent)

That is exactly what I needed. Thank you very much.

For anyone who runs into this and wants to know how I set mine up:
Go into the 'Feature Access Codes' section ('System Properties' -> 'System Feature Settings' -> 'Feature Access Codes'), and find the listings for 'Group Presence - Join Group third Party' and 'Group Presence - Leave Group Third Party'.

If not assigned yet, assign a code to each both features.

Next, the phone that you are dialing the feature code from must have a Class of Service that allows 'Group Presence Third Party Control'. If this is not already set in your Class of Service, you will either need to add it, or change the phone over to a different CoS that does.

Once that is set, as kwbMitel says above, on your desk phone you will dial the feature access code, followed by the DN of the Personal Ring Group that you will be joining or leaving, followed by the DN of the phone that will be joining or leaving the group.

This worked perfectly for us, and I appreciate the quick (and accurate) answer.

Just to expand, yes you can program this on a key for each member.
Program the key as a 'Personal Presence' with the DN of the HDU.

When the user is present the key will be lit, you can press the key to toggle the absent/present state of each member.

@Sarond, Personal Presence Keys only work if your Prime Line matches the Group Number

@Jayisgod2, If the helpdesk phone IS the prime number for the group then you can program 1 key each for each of the Member DNs as a Personal Presence Key.

Personal Presence Keys have the advantage of lighting up if active and not if not.
