vMAS 5 / vMCD 6 / 30 Nupoint ports

Question about the possible states that a Nupoint port can be in. VCCS shows these options:

.-HANGUP o-LOGIN --BYE
||-CYCLE t-TIMEOUT f-FORWARDED |
>-OUTSIDER a-AUTOATTEND \-RECYCLE
p-PAGER ?-INVALID_STATE +-INTG
e-ESMDI f-FWDRNA f-FWDBUSY
f-FWDALL f-FWD1 f-FWD2
f-FWD3 f-FWD4 I-LOGIN_DIRECT
v-VAL5 V-VAL5_LOGIN M-MEETME
_-UNKNOWN_STATE

A larger than comfortable portion of my ports had been showing as 'v' and when called would RNA. Calling the next port that showed to be ' . ' would be answered by Nupoint lady.

What does VAL5 indicate and is it possible to re-register a port on demand instead of the trusted mid-day reboot? Busy/rts from the vMCD maintenance commands had no effect.

Let's make that slightly more readable for those of you that aren't robots.

What about a "load ip device <device number>" from the vMCD?

Instead of a reboot, I would try to activate the offline config. 2 min downtime instead of much more.

Config the offline
Copy from active
Save the offline
Activate offline

P.S. For the sake of your friend up north, remind me what the complete vccs command is. I know I probably taught it to you but I've forgotten.

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

although it will take voicemail offline for a brief period, did you try stopping and restarting the nupoint services.

@Lundah: Good thinking, I'll try that next time I see the ports in VAL5 state. When I issue the command for a port that is HANGUP state I see no change in its state nor do I see any output from VCCS.

@kwb: That method would work.

There is another command that will re-activate the current running config: activatecfg -C

vccs - VMEMO Call Control State Debugger
VCCS provides a message sequence chart with VMEMO, SFA, IPNPM and PBX/SIP_GW as columns.
Captured events are stored in a circular buffer. When the buffer is full it is dumped into a file.
The buffer can also be dumped manually at any time or when vccs exits.
Default output file is /tmp/vccs_001.vcs but can be changed with the -f option.
Options:
-c <chan> Only trace the specified channel (zero-based).
-b Run quietly in the background.
-d <file> Decode and display output file. File name length < 128 please.
-W Wide output.
-f <file> Specify the name of the output file. File name length < 128 please.
-s Trace all SFA requests.
-m Trace MWLA activities.
-o Trace OAA requests/replies.
-z <buf size> Specify the size of the buffer in terms of number of events. Default is 140000.
-h Display usage notes.

Pressing 'd' while running vccs will dump all the records collected into /tmp/vccs_001.vcs . If you try and view the vccs_001.vcs file in windows it will come out as garbage. Luckly VCCS has a decoding option (linux users jump in to correct)

vccs -d /tmp/vccs_001.vcs

-or-

vccs -d /tmp/vccs_001.vcs > /tmp/vccs_001.txt
more /tmp/vccs_001.txt

If you're using putty, it's easier to just copy the output from the teriminal instead of downloading the .txt file (no carriage return)

@Waldo: This would also probably work. I'll try this (pending the output of Lundahs suggestion) the next time the ports are in VAL5.
