Hello. We have a particular need to auto discard messages from subscriber mailboxes after a pre-determined period of time. I set message age limits to 15 days or 360 hours for unplayed, played messages. We have Standard UM setup for these mailboxes and as such, the subscribers are not accessing their mailbox via the TUI. Rather, they use Outlook to retrieve and respond to messages. We have found that the messages are not purging based on the limits COS or FCOS of these particular mailboxes and therefore, they are reaching the message maximum of 125 messages. In the interim, I have bumped up max message limit to 175 until I can figure out how to automaticlly discard these after 15 days. Please let me know if anyone has successfully set this up and let me know what I might be missing. Thanks so much!

The message age limits are cumulative except for the Absolute age limit.

A message can be unplayed for 15 days and also played for 15 days.

If they do not access via TUI at all I would use Basic UM and delete after 2 hours absolute.

age limits are set in the LCOS and you seem to have that setup. The only experience I have with auto delete is in a hotel situation where we setup shadow mailboxes for each guest room. This way if the guest was checked out ( messages get deleted ) they coud still be retrieved from the shadow mailbox for a limited time. We just used LCOS and from what I remembered it worked.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Thank you KWBMitel and LoopyLou. What I have since found is that the subscriber mailboxes had not been checked in users and services for Standard UM and therefore they were not utilizing the parameters that had been checked in the limits COS. I have successfully setup a mailbox as Standard UM with the appropriate parameters. However, I did not see a purge of messages until an overnight synch with the MAS. I assume that I will need to purge all messages from these mailboxes prior to changing them from UM SMTP mailboxes to Standard UM mailboxes. Is this correct or will the old messages purge once I make the change? The only other question that remains is..Is it necessary to check mark "auto discard" (feature bit 056) within the feature cos or is setting the absolute message retention time sufficient? Thanks so much!

Autodiscard is not necessary

Message age limits not applying retroactively until a midnight process makes sense to me but I don't know for sure how it will act

kwbMitel. I thought you might be interested to know that it does require you to select feature bit 056 "auto discard" in order to purge messages from the mailbox. I set them up with the same parameters as the successful mailbox without 056 and the messages did not delete. Thanks

Good to know
