Hi,

We have Mitel 5224 IP phones and need gigabit ethernet to the desktop through the hub on the phone itself. We are looking at the Mitel gigabit ethernet stand and were wondering if anyone here has any experience with them.

Do they work with the Mitel 5224 IP phones?

Will PoE still be an option or will the phone now require a seperate power brick?

Thanks for your time.

HI, here are your answers found at MOL's website :

Powering Options :
* Supports IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet
* Optional 48VDC universal power adapter available
(purchased separately)

Supported across a range of IP desktop devices
for greater choice for your customers:5215/
5220 IP Phones (dual mode),5212,5224,5235,
5330,5340 IPPhones

The data sheet is here (should be recheable without MOL account)

Regards

Now, it's about French users too !!!

Works on all 521x, 522x, 53xx phones. Supports PoE, but if you have PoE AND the power brick, the phone will reboot upon removal of the power brick. It will boot back up on PoE.

They work well! Look for 10/100/1000 phones from Mitel in 2007, late in the year. It will be available on 5235, 5330 and 5340.

Thanks for the reply!

I just got them in and they indeed work very well with the phones. I just have one curveball.

Have you tried using them with a 5224 that has the 5310 conference unit attached?

I just tried playing with this setup and it seems very weird. It looks like the whole thing requires two power sources. I had to use the power supply for the 5310 to keep the unit on and in addition to that I had to either:

a. Turn on PoE for the Gigabit Stand

b. Use the power supply for the Gigabit Stand in addition to the power brick for the 5310.

This seems like an awful amount of power requirements for this setup. Can anyone recommned a better solution? I'm looking for a phone + conference unit that supports gigabit ethernet.

Should I look at the newer Mitel IP phones?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

The GigE stand supports PoE, so you could use PoE if you had it.

The 5310 will always require additional power for the conference saucer.

The GigE stand will not provide enough power for the conference saucer.

Thanks MitelGuy,

I initially did what you mentioned and did:

PoE to enable the Gigabit Stand

The 5310 power supply to turn on 5310

Everything seemed to work once I did that. I just wanted to make sure that this is the route that I need to go. The whole setup looks like it needs two seperate sources of power and I wanted to make sure that I wasn't damaging the phone or the switch the supplies the PoE.

Thanks again!

Remember Mitel will be coming out with GigE phones (not stands) late in this year. Under the "ever green" philosophy, they will accept the 5310.

Thanks MitelGuy,

If possible we would have liked to wait for those but with new hires coming in in the beggining of the year, it was not feasible.

Has anyone tried the wireless stand as well? Thoughts? If I use that one a 5310 equpped phone can one power supply sustain the whole setup or will I have to have two seperate power supplies?

Thanks in advance.
