Hi

I need to get some clarification on option 125.

Basically, vlan1=data and vlan2=voice
Using 3300 for dhcp on voice vlan.
Using cisco router for dhcp on data vlan.

Do I configure option 125 on the cisco router so that this points to the voice vlan, therefore the phone boots into the data vlan then gets the vlan id, then phone re-requests dhcp from vlan 2 and boots up ? Is that correct ?

Thanks for your responses.

That method is the easiest.

Thanks for response and confirmation kwbmitel.

what about all other options 128-132 etc

Can I leave those out ?

option 125 covers all.

128-134 are obsolete (unless you have phones that have been in boxes for over 3 years)

Cool!

Ive got a couple of 5550 consoles but I assume that the ip phones and the console keypads would operate in the same manner but with a static reservation.

Nothing different required for the 5550 on the cisco, but as you say, static addresses on the 3300.

Doesn't sound like you are using CDP to tell the sets what VLAN then need to be on.

Hi Loopylou.

Still new to cisco but getting there.

How can I use CDP, to state vlan info ?

Its laid out in the Engineering Guidelines for the 3300.

You can have layer two switches setup with a "Voice" VLAN. In Cisco you use CDP. For others manufactuers including HP you can use LLDP. What this does is when a voice device is plugged in, that device advertises its power requirements and that it is a phone. With CDP or LLDP, the layer 2 can immediatedly tell the phone that it belongs on VLAN x ( voice ). The phone can now tag its packets with the voice VLAN number, allowing its DHCP request to go out on the Voice VLAN where the 3300 is the DHCP server. The result is you don't need to alter the data VLANs DHCP server at all.

As kwbMitel says look in the engineering guidelines for info.
