Can anyone help me with installing an ASU2
I complted the Mitel Course, but I have limited access to a controller. I have to install the device, but I have no clue where to start.
The ASU-II connects to the Controller via one of the CIM ports with an Ethernet Crossover cable (not a std. cable). Analog licenses are required. CIM ports are numbered left-to right, Use port CIM-1 if available. Connect the ASU-II to the controller then power up the ASU-II. The controller will auto-detect it. The built-in HELP screen on the 3300 should be able to guide you from here.
Something else, the ASU-II is worthless by itself. You also need one (or 2 maximum) cards for it. There are 3 different types, 24 port ONS, 16 port ONS or 4+12 port Loop Start trunk/ONS combo card. You'll also need a 50-pin (25-pair) amphenol plug (female) and cable for it & punch it down on a connecting block (66-type or 110).
If as you say you completed the 3300 certification course, then you should have the necessary documentation (or know where to find it)
how on earth do you complete the course and have no idea where to start installing an ASU 2?
is there something wrong with the training. IMHO, I think there is as I've seen time and again guys come from training and look as lost in front of a system as any dude from the street.
At the very least you should be pointed to resources that can help.
To be honest, id did not get it too
But that should not be a problem, it is documented !!!

I too have struggled after first coming home from a leader-led course. Handholding that's available in the classroom doesn't carry over into the real world and the class being compressed into 1 week (whereas the old SG course was 3 weeks) means there's not much time for lab work. For now I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
Thank for the response.
Yes the course was very interisting and I did learn a lot in the week, but real live is very different, having no telephony exp.
However, I don't have access to a controller, and once a year if I come across one, you don't want to mess with it.
I searched the courseware and the online help, it is not very helpfull. Luckily another Mitel Expert in our company is going to do the instalation now, I will be tagging along to check it out.
Yes, by all means tag along for the experience. One of the fellows in my SX2000 I&M course (Boca Raton, FL, May 1989) was a lineman for a contract company that had just won the bid to support a new Mitel system at Ft. Sill, OK. He'd never even seen a key system before, but a likeable enough kid and the rest of the guys in the class all took him under our wings and mentored him, then stayed in contact after the training and helped him through a couple software upgrades (17+ floppy disks in those days) and a HD replacement. There was no GUI interface and the tech handbook consisted of five big 3-ring binders (6 if you went the 4th week to CDE school) plus all your lab notes.
The material is impossible to absorb in only a 1-week course if you don't get the opportunity to regularly use it. The learning process only starts in the certification course. Practical application after you leave school is where the real education comes from, and you never stop learning because the technology keeps changing.
wasn't having a go at the question rather at the training. The expectations of people that have been on course is usually along the lines of "I've done the course and now I can do this" - BIG mistake.
I've seen guys WITH telephony experience not hack it after the training course.
anyway good luck, the only way to learn is to get stuck in
