With the acquisition, does it now mean that Aastra phones can be integrated on the Mitel 3300 platforms just as the Mitel phones are without any external gateway interface. If not what is needed to connect the Aastra phones to the 3300
The 3300 can support SIP phones. Therefore any Aastra Phone that can run in SIP mode should be able to run on the 3300. The Aastra phones will never run in Minet mode. Think I heard that Aastra is going to produce all the new Mitel phones going forward and they are to be SIP/Minet. Check the Mitel CoE document for the models of Aastra phones that are supported.
One other point is that the industry trend is to dump all the proprietary phone coding and go with SIP. I believe Cisco has already said that is the direction they are heading. Sure the others like Mitel will follow. Would think it would be cheaper for all manufactures to move to only support SIP.
Except what SIP will they use? It seems to me that implementations of SIP can vary widely....So Cisco SIP phones will never interop with Mitel SIP fully otherwise manufacturers will lose sales on phones.
Mind you the way Mitel is going with the channel makes me wonder just how much they really want the small dealer no matter how much they fawn to them in their 'new' missives.....
