I cannot get the 5550 IP Console to work under Windows 7 (64bit edition).

Our company has made the move from Windows XP Professional (32bit) to Windows 7 Professional (64bit). All that remains is to migrate the reception systems. The problem we've run into is that the console software does not show the top row of options (File, Calls, Directories, Tools, Program, Help). I tried running the software using Windows compatibility mode for Xp w. SP3, as well as w. SP2, but the software would not even run. I installed a virtual client (vmware player) and installed Windows XP Pro (32bit) and although the console software appears to run perfectly, it will not connect to the keypad and therefore will not handle calls.

Does anyone have any information on how to get the console running either in Windows 7 (64bit) or in the Windows XP virtual?

The version of the console is:

Application 3.5.1.6
keypad 9.6.0.4

Thank you

5550 Minimum Rel 4.0 is needed to support Windows 7

There is a lot of useful info in the release notes.

Thank you kwbMitel, I'll contact my Mitel reseller and ask them for the new release.

Is that console load backward compatible with your load of MCD?

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Release notes for the latest console software explicitly state that 64 bit windows 7 is not supported.

@EngVOIP - I too believed I'd read that the version must be 32bit but could not find it in the release notes. Thanks for the confirmation.

I have just figured out the solution!

For those of you who would like to run the 5550 IP console (v. 3.5) in Windows 7 Professional(64bit edition) here's what you need to do:

1. install VMWare Player (a free download from VMWare) on your Windows 7 machine

2. set up a new virtual machine

3. install Windows XP on your new virtual

4. from XP: set a static IP address on the local area connection that is able to route to your phone switch

5. from the VMware Player: click on "Virtual Machine settings" and set the Network Adapter to "Bridged: Connect directly to the physical network"

6. from XP: install the console software and configure normally

7. test out the software and confirm connectivity to the switch and the keypad

Thank you for the posts, and I hope this information helps!

Wonder if this could also be accomplished using the Virtual PC built into W7 pro by Microsoft. When you install Virtual PC in W7 you get a copy of XP with it. Not sure if the W7 64 would get an XP 64 bit.

Thank you TheMitelGuy. You wouldn't happen to know which release version I should be asking my authorized Mitel reseller for, would you?

I do, but I can't give that out, yet. Until it hits internal trails it is not official. Once it hits IFT I will post it for (within one month). Sorry I could not be more of assistance. Just wait until May.
