Mitel 5330 IP Phone prompts "Configure Phone?" at boot - no keys pressed

Good Day All,

I've encountered 2 Mitel 5330 IP phones that prompt "Configure Phone?" upon power up while connected on the network. In my experience a phone will normally just start booting unless specific keys are held down when powering on, but not in the case of these two phones. If I press # for No, the phones will boot, but I'd rather not expose the phone configuration menu to end users. I've tried resetting the phone using "Reset Defaults?" in the "Tools & Features?" menu but the issue persists. I've also tried hitting * to configure the phone at the prompt and cycled through to the "Exit Menu?" prompt and still the phone will prompt "Configure Phone?" on the next power cycle.

How can I get these phones to automatically boot without prompting for configuration at each power cycle?

Thanks,

Stan

It may sound silly but is a key stuck down?

As you've said it should prompt for anything unless a key is held down.

Thank you for the response sarond. I'd be thrilled if it were a stuck key, alas, I've confirmed all keys move freely and none appear to be depressed.

do you have the ability to change the firmware ?

- perhaps connect them as Teleworker to a system running a difrrent version

then clear that and reconnect to change firmware back

or if you are game clear the firmware using tools diagnostics then down arrow and Erase main load

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Unfortunately, I don't have access to another system to connect them to. The firmware was upgraded, however, when I first attempted to put these phones into service as they had been sitting on the shelf for quite some time and our MCD has been upgraded several times since they were last used (if they were ever used at all).

I'm game to try erasing the main load, however, I am unable to find that option within tools diagnostics. Can you provide more detail on where it can be found?

Thanks,

Stan

from tools and features press *
then press # until you see Diagnostics ( was 8 presses on mine)
then press *
then use down volume key untyil you see erase main load ( was 12 presses i think)

then press *

DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS The phone is able to connect to a TFTP Server immediately with a firmware on it or you may end up with a paperweight

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

I was unable to find the Erase Main Load menu option (the only option presented under Diagnostics was Last Assert/Except"). I was, however, able to get the phone to boot without interaction by selecting the "Erase PIN" and "Reset Default" options. I intended to try the same on the first phone I encountered that was experiencing this issue (which I had put on a shelf to troubleshoot at another time), and mysteriously, it booted without interaction upon being plugged in.

Not a definitive answer, but I'm not going to argue with success.

Thanks for the consideration and responses.

Stan
