The previous installer set this up for 3 digit dial and now the customer wants to use the group admin tool to make VM changes, which isn't possible without 4 digit extensions. The customer has a PRI and about 50 sets, almost all are 4025 Digital sets. Also there is a Superconsole 1000 that they want to replace with a 5340 IP set. I'm fairly comfortable with 3300 programming but am concerned about the possible conflicts that can arise from the ext number change.

Anyone ever have this task????

Not a big deal from a telephone perspective, just a lot of work. Embedded voicemail will be the challenge. Can remember but might lose messages if renumbering.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Depends really on a couple of factors...

1. Are current sets DN a variation of DIDs from the PRI
2. Customer realizes that all voicemail boxes will be reset when the extensions are changed.
3. How many digits are being sent from the Telco and what if any digits are being inserted.

Had a customer with DIDs of xxx-xxx-5200 to xxx-xxx-5299 and 3 digit extensions of 200-299. Added more DIDs and people so we made it 4 digits of 5200- 5299 to allow the addition of another 100 DIDs.

Biggest pitfalls are in ARS, Digital Trunk configuration & FAC

"The only problem with common sense is that it's not that common

AS LoupyLou said, no to difficult froma programming perspective but a lot of work.

As you're going to 4 digit DNs there is less chance you'll get any conflicts as opposed to going to other way to 3 digit DNs where 4321 and 5321 would conflict.

would using the 'associated directory number' form make it any easier?
You could associate the 4 digit exten number to the 3 digit. Not sure if it would work for your scenario but had a problem with CPN the other day and used this form to modify the outgoing number so it would send 4 digits instead of the 3 digit extension number.

no its better renumbering the extensions other option would be to use system speed calls but that creates a bit of a dogs breakfast. Not that the dog would mind.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.
