not a mitel guru at all. i have read the book front to back. it doesnt say one word about idle line preference. it can do it cause some phone do pickup a line when the handset is lifted. can anyone please help?

Are you talking about hotline, where a phone lifts the handset and automatically gets an external line out without having to dial the external access code?

If so it is in extension programming under hotline I believe, I do not work on the 3000's so not 100% sure.

By default taking a phone off hook will select the prime DN (key 1). COS option "ringing line select" when enabled will force a ringing phone to select the first ringing line key when going off-hook. If the phone is in headset mode the user must select the line to go off-hook.

Ah, crap, I just realized this post was about the 3000 and not the 3300. I also have no experience with that system, sorry.

Yup, hotline is the only way to do it as far as I can see.
