I see a few other threads here on this subject but none of the solutions worked for me.

What I have is a 3300CXi running 6.0 SP3 (12.0.3.15). I have a public ip address off my routed network with no firewall in between the WAN port of the 3300 and the public IP from my router.

I can ping the wan port address from the internet.

I have configured the WAN settings and the PPTP settings.

I tried with the firewall on and off.

I tried with forwarding ports to the Mitel private address (192.169.20.2)

I tried using my Windows 7 machine and my Ubuntu machine. No joy.

Has anyone succesfully ever done this? I am out of ideas.

PPTP would be for VPN,
you set up a username, password and the IP address you want to give the connection. Connect to the VPN using standard windows VPN, no port forwarding should be required. You are essentially connected to the network and can access the Mitel via its IP address.

I am using VPN with windows 7 and I tried Ubuntu. Neither works. I am missing something.

Try setting your gateway of the Mitel to the Layer 2 Switch IP address (of the Mitel).
I seem to remember that if you want to use the Mitel as a router you need to use the L2 switch address as the Gateway for all your clients.
