Lets say you walk into a client that has suffered catastrophic failure and has to restore their complete system from tape.

Everything comes back fine except for they don't have WPDOMAIN.DB on any of their tapes.

Is there a strategy for rebuilding the domain without killing the post offices and data for all the users?
As far as I can tell, the Post Office is okay.

This is GroupWise 5.5, and it is a single domain/post office setup.

Thanks in advance.

Nope. Just the WPDOMAIN.DC file from the distro, but I could get that off the CD just as easily.

Well, this is how it turns out..

Found a tape that had WPDOMAIN.DB but the tape was badly damaged. Not sure how i got the file off of it. Their last good backup (not including the WPDOMAIN.DB) was in December of last year. So yeah, they lost some data.

Once I got the MTA and POA running on the server, I had severe database corruption on the POA but was able to recover most of it. Overall it was a success. Considering the circumstances it could have been much worse.

Glad you got it, my next suggestion was gunna be an NTS call. You could have built a new domian, then sent the DB files for both the domain and PO to NTS and they would do the needed database edits to get them linked.
