This is something that has been baffling me for a while -
My Lotus Notes R5 Welcome page just dissappeared one day, never to return. The initial page is just grey.
Anyone came across this before?

You are not alone. If I use the icon on my desktop (the icon was present before upgrading to 5.0 from a previous version) I get the grey only start up. If I use the shortcut I put on my MS Office shortcut bar I get the splash screen.

Desktop shortcut points to "C:\notes\nlnotes.exe" while the MSO shortcut points to "C:\notes\notes.exe"

By changing to the notes.exe on the desktop, I now get the splash screen.

I don't know if this helps you at all but it ended up helping me.

Thanks [thumbsup] Mike

The screen at startup is located in the bookmark.ntf.

In our offices we like to keep the look and feel of the older 4.5x versions (ie: Notes desktop)

When we launch notes the first time....not using a pre-configured bookmark.net, we go to the left side of the window and select databases. Locate the desktop, right click, and select set as bookmark. From that point forward it is the initial sdtart-up screen in notes. (this allows transition to R5 with little user education involved.)

I would ceck your bookmark.ntf for your settings or look in databases for the welcome screen, right click and set as default bookmark.

You're right! File/Database/Open on local - open bookmark.ntf opens the Welcome screen - then this was saved on the bookmark bar - right-clicked the bookmark and saved it as the Homepage - sorted..

Thanks!!!

Actually, setting the welcome page as the default homepage does not save when Notes is relaunched so reverts to the previous screen........

Am I missing something here??

The bookmark.ntf holds those settings. Unless....you receive your notes config files from a server location. If your ID, Names, bookmark, desktop, etc are stored at the server level, you may be experiencing what IT management wishes you to receive or...unable to save changes due to Read/Filascan rights on the drive they are stored in.?

I use Notes extensively here and simply selecting the desktop as the bookmark, from the databases panel, saves on future launches.

Is this a semi local install of Notes with pieces of config files on the server.?

bookmark.ntf is the template for bookmark.nsf.

look for the bookmark.nsf database in your client's data directory and delete it. (don't forget to close out of the notes client first) :p
When you launch the notes client again it'll recreate the bookmark.nsf datbase from the template.
