Missing Toolbars & Menus in Word 1

Ha! an easy one, I hear you say. Not So.
The user has what looks like the usual 'full screen' word window, i.e. both the toolbars & menus are missing.
Easy peasy, I thought, Alt V, get the view menu up & restore menus & toolbars, I wish!.
Alt V does not work, In fact Alt anything is struggling a bit.
Tried to start word with the /e & /m switch. This just gives a syntax error, so what's next?

Any clues out there in expert land?

Word 97 on Windoze 98.

turned out to be the registry after all.
I was looking in the wrong section. Duh!
Now fixed, & another happy user.
