In my services Windows Network Management NOT starting and is giving file not found error. Looking at properties of this C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SVCHOST.EXE is the execuatble but this is missing (think it may have been deleted by a virus protection program a while back)

Iv'e tried putting the SVCHOST.EXE from system32 (which is there) into the system directory, but this doesn't seem to fix the problem. Even after a reboot it refuses to start. I even tried changing the path from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SVCHOST.EXE to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SVCHOST.EXE in the registry but in both cases get:

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely manner.

when I try to start the process.

Is there anyway I can restore the 1 file from the install CD without having to do a complete system restore? The system seems to be behaving fine apart from this one error I keep getting so I don't want to go back to a full restore

Thanks in advance
Andy

From what Iv'e read it now looks like this was a virus/trojan horses added to my system. Since the SVCHOST it referes to was in the system directory, not the system32 directory.
