What do I do if the Restart menu is missing on the Apple Menu? It just suddenly disappears. thanks in advance

You can also use Command (the apple key) +control + power on key on the keyboard. Just as comand+option+esc will (somethimes) allow you to end a non-responsive program, the restart combination will warm boot the machine. I'd suggest rebuilding your desktop (hold down the command and option keys as the machine powers up) in case the Mac has "lost track" of the file.

Hit the shutdown button (top right of keyboard or wherever) and then click restart...
